SHORTER COLLEGE
Conceived in the mind of educator Luther Rice Gwaltney, the Cherokee Baptist Female College opened for students in 1873. As pastor of Rome Baptist Church, now First Baptist, Gwaltney encouraged the active participation of church members in the establishment of a school for young ladies.
Because of the generous contributions of Alfred and Martha Shorter, in 1877 the college was renamed Shorter Female College.

Located in Waleska, Georgia; Reinhardt College is the newest EPIC Partner. “The music program at Reinhardt provides a challenging and rewarding educational experience,” stated Dr. Dennis McIntire, Assistant Dean for Music. “We had to select performance instruments that would enable our students to meet our high academic standards. With the acquisition of 63 Kawai and Shigeru Kawai pianos (including two Shigeru VI Semi-Concert Grands and a Shigeru EX 9-foot Concert Grand), Chapman University in Orange, California took an important step toward becoming one of the preeminent schools of music on America's west coast. "After building a state-of-the-art performance and teaching facility, we had to have pianos of similar stature," stated Dr. William Hall, Dean of the School of Music. "Becoming a Kawai EPIC Institution demonstrates our deep commitment to instrumental excellence. It is an investment that will benefit our students and faculty for many years to come."

Similarly, the Conservatoire de musique du Québec demonstrated its steadfast commitment to musical excellence with the acquisition of 31 new Shigeru Kawai Grand Pianos and 12 new Kawai Professional Upright Pianos. The impressive collection of instruments was distributed to the studios of top professors at affiliate campuses in Montreal, Gatineau, Rimouski, Saguenay, and Val-d'Or – assuring for the Conservatoire's students and faculty a superb level of instrumental excellence that will help to train the next generation of fine artists.
The Elite Performing Instrument Collection (EPIC) is a unique institutional program made possible by the Shigeru Kawai Endowment.
