KAWAI CA95 WINS DESIGN AWARD
"Good Design" Award

Rancho Dominguez, CA • October, 2012 – Kawai America is pleased to announce that the new CA95 digital piano has received a prestigious ‘Good Design Award’ accolade from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).

As Kawai’s flagship digital piano, the CA95 combines the latest Harmonic Imaging XL piano sound and Grand Feel keyboard action technologies with elegant design and superb build quality to deliver the concert grand playing experience.

The ‘Good Design Award’ judges described the CA95 as “A digital piano in pursuit of grand piano performance”, praising the compact instrument’s ability to reproduce the tonal quality, nuance and atmosphere of a real grand piano.

This summary accurately describes the ‘Grand Feel’ concept of the latest Concert Artist instruments, which draw upon various grand piano characteristics – such as the movement of wooden keys, the position and angle of the music rest and the weighting of individual pedals – to give musicians the impression of playing an acoustic grand piano.

CA95 Wins Japanese "Good Design" award

Commenting on the award, CA95 designer Koichi Henda explained: “I wished to capture the atmosphere of an impressive grand piano, as this remains the source of inspiration for many pianists. The compact size of the CA95 is suitable for most living spaces, yet the instrument allows the finest musical performances to be played with great expressive detail, feeling, and joy.”

This year’s accolade echoes the achievement in 2010 of the previous generation CA93 model, which received the same award, representing another victory for Kawai’s highly respected product design group.

About the "Good Design Award"
Established in 1957, ‘Good Design Award’ is a comprehensive program for the evaluation and encouragement of design organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). Every year the JDP receives over 3,000 submissions from over 1,000 companies and designers throughout the globe. Entrants are screened by a panel of approximately 60 industry experts, who select outstanding designs based on distinctiveness, industrial advancement, and social enrichment.
