Recording WAV and MP3 Audio on Select Kawai Pianos

As a Nashville-based musician, I enjoy having a Kawai CP179 in my living room – typically for entertaining and preparing for Kawai presentations – and a Kawai MP5 in my studio primarily used as a controller for my Mac and software recording set-up. The MP5 is also portable and goes to gigs and sessions around town.

Since finding my way around the powerful new CP179, however, I’ve noticed I’m spending markedly less time at the Mac!

As a songwriter, the power of technology has connected with me with other songwriters not only across town, but across the country. For years, I’ve been making recordings on my computer, saving them down to an MP3 format and emailing files back and forth in hopes of creating the “next big hit”. A tedious process, to say the least, but on my CP, now it’s ridiculously easy.

All I do is play – with the option of singing along with a microphone – and the audio is saved onto a USB device as an MP3 (I could also choose to save it as a WAV file). In a matter of minutes – and without the difficult task of switching from the creative right brain to the logical left brain – my work is on its way or can be posted at my favorite social networking site.

There have been some instruments in the recent past that have saved audio files onto USB devices, but none that saved as MP3 – nor saved it so quickly and easily.

Thanks, Kawai – for giving us such a powerful, yet intuitive tool to create music!
