The Millennium III Action features components made of ABS-Carbon, a composite material created by the infusion of carbon fiber into our renowned ABS Styran. ABS-Carbon is incredibly sturdy and rigid, which allows the creation of action parts that are lighter without sacrificing strength. The result is a stronger, faster action that offers more power, better control and greater stability than conventional all-wood actions.

The jack is the pivotal link between the key and the hammer that controls the power and repetition of each keystroke. Made of carbon and polyacetal, our exclusive Carbon Jack is molded as a single piece using Kawai's "Tapered Core" design for minimum weight, maximum directional strength and optimum responsiveness. It is virtually indestructible, will not warp due to humidity, and requires no lubrication – all of which reduces the need for maintenance. A microscopic surface texture dramatically increases control during pianissimo passages. These attributes make the Carbon Jack far more advanced than the conventional glue-jointed wooden jacks found on most other pianos.

Made from a custom mold, die-cast parts are formed exactly the same every time. GX BLAK Series grand pianos feature a minimum of five aluminum action brackets that are die-cast to provide an added measure of strength and uniform stability to the action for accurate touch over time. Both the hammer rail and wippen rails are permanently locked in place to maintain the exacting tolerances of the action design and ensure long-term stability.

The dual-beam design makes our action rails extremely strong and stable to support the hammers. The finely serrated rail surface and the exclusive Insuliner hold hammer flanges securely in place to preserve accurate hammer alignment and optimize touch and tone.

Our exclusive NEOTEX key surface material made of cellulose fiber offers the smooth, understated texture of natural ivory and ebony – and a semi-porous, silica-filled surface to absorb the hand's natural oils and perspiration. Since NEOTEX is used for both the sharps and naturals, the feel of the keys is consistent across the entire keyboard. NEOTEX resists cracking and fading over years of use and is static-resistant to help prevent the build-up of unwanted dust. The result is a beautiful, long-lasting key surface with exceptional playability.

Mahogany hammers are lightweight and extremely responsive. Lighter weight lets them release faster after striking, which leaves more energy and tone in the strings. Found only on the finest grand pianos, mahogany is used for the hammer mouldings on the entire line of GX BLAK Series grand pianos.

Spruce is the ideal material for the keys – light, yet extremely strong for its weight. It responds with minimal flex and exceptional consistency, transmitting every subtle nuance of the pianist’s performance while remaining stable through years of heavy use. The length of each key has been extended to make playing easier and provide more even response from the front to the back of the playing surface. Keysticks are also designed with a slightly taller profile for maximum rigidity to deliver greater power.

The use of hardwood maple key buttons adds stiffness to the keysticks for improved energy transfer. Key buttons on the GX Series instruments have been doubled in length to provide maximum energy transfer and optimum power.

One of the most coveted attributes of a fine piano is dynamic range – the ability to play not only thundering fortissimos, but also the most delicate and sensitive pianissimos. The technological superiority of the Millennium III Action is most evident in its extraordinary ability to produce the perfect pianissimo. It seems ironic that GX Series technology
speaks loudest when it whispers. | |||||||||||||
